Meet the Founders:

At The Art of Adornment, co-founders Heidi Howell and Katelyn Simkins bring together decades of experience in costume, millinery, and makeup artistry to create immersive beauty experiences rooted in history and personal expression.

Heidi Howell

With over 20 years in film and television costume design, Heidi’s creative journey has taken her from Austin to New York, New Orleans, Budapest, and now Bath. Her passion for historical textiles and storytelling led her to millinery, where she trained at the British School of Millinery and the School of Historical Dress in London. Heidi’s handcrafted hats and headpieces blend traditional British techniques with cinematic flair — each piece is a study in silhouette, texture, and timeless elegance.

Whether designing for screen or styling for a Georgian ball, Heidi’s work is grounded in collaboration, craftsmanship, and a deep reverence for fashion history. Her studio is a haven for those who believe that a hat isn’t just an accessory — it’s a statement. You can see more of her work at heidihowellmillinery.com

Katelyn Simkins

Katelyn is a master makeup artist with over two decades of experience across editorial fashion, global advertising campaigns, and celebrity styling. Her portfolio includes work with acclaimed talents such as Ben Chaplin, Kira Sedgwick, Martin Sheen, Patricia Clarkson, and Kate Bosworth — blending precision with artistry across red carpets, film sets, and high-profile shoots.

Yet her heart lies in the storytelling that beauty and adornment offer. For Katelyn, history is truly brought to life through the intimate details of how people have styled and expressed themselves across time. From Regency rouge to mid-century glamour, she helps clients and students uncover the emotional and cultural layers behind every look. Her love for bygone eras and the transformative power of beauty led her to Bath, where she now designs workshops and experiences that celebrate the art of self-expression through time.

Together, Heidi and Katelyn invite you to explore the artistry of adornment — where history meets imagination, and every detail tells a story. Take a deeper dive into her portfolio at katelynsimkins.com
